episode 5 of city might be the most insanely creatively written, directed, and executed episode of anime i have EVER seen. like it's just an absolute masterpiece in gag setup, pacing, anticipation and payoff. and the animation and art is INCREDIBLE all the way through

CITY #05 is the one-of-a-kind, inspirational experience that everyone involved described. Led by one of KyoAni's up-and-coming directors and an ace animator with a lot of time to their disposal, it's a playful showcase of styles & materials that gets to the heart of this series

CITY's anime has finally reached the iconic Where's Waldo panel and it's somehow even more insane with its approach of cycling through each group, helping it come across more digestible, building up excitement and anticipation as they slowly come together to coalesce as a whole🙏

the animation is still characterful as ever in this regard (see the chair), it's not a surprise the staff also got confused at what's cel and what isn't when looking at the end result lol x.com/flappuu/status…

gotta love how they integrate the impressive build of the mansion with the animation layers itself in ambitious scenes like this one as well (also smol cute explorer wako model! literally climbing up because of course she would do that)

the way the episode plays with the crazy interconnectedness of the CITY is far and away the most inventive with its original ideas from the manga... depicting nagumo's group traversing in real-time through the whacky tower in the style of NES DQ? hell yes, this is real anime

don't think it's hyperbole in the slightest to say this is a generational episode for its ingenuity, and will be one for many years to come. easily the most creative episode this year that pushes the medium in meaningful ways. phenomenal effort by all the staff involved
