It's a long story. The punchline is, in the past 3 months I've had sepsis, a blood clot in my arm, pulmonary embolism, pleurisy, and now both sepsis and several blood clots despite blood thinners. I'll be in the hospital until surgery next week. Merry holidays, happy solstice.

I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and have skipped events out of concern that something like this might happen. But my fears always stopped at "hassle by the audience/lack of assistance by facility," because I have the privilege of being a white woman.

My wife’s mom has Alzheimer’s disease. Earlier tonight, we left her parents alone at their Airbnb while we took the kids to urgent care for ear infections. Her dad fell asleep on the couch. Her mom wandered out the door… 🧵
