Fantastic to see Neale Mahoney taking over as Director of SIEPR. Super to have him leading Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research , a hugely important and influential research and policy institute. Many thanks to Mark Duggan for his outstanding leadership before :-)

London Underground - known as "the Tube" to locals - has just defined Friday as off peak all day. Offices and the Tube are how half empty on Friday as we WFH :-)

Some folks claim "working from home is bad for mental health". We surveyed 4,000 people to find out. The data shows people are very different. It appears choice and flexibility are best for mental health (and not 5-day return to office mandates).

A great piece from The Economist's Alice Fulwood a few weeks ago mentioned the rise of the remote husband, ie men working fully remote with spouses working in person. I asked Nick Bloom if he could help me put some numbers to the trend... (thanks also to Mert Akan)

In the SWAA survey with Gable we discovered many RTOs are struggling, with frequent RTO reruns. Amazingly 6% of employees have had five or more attempts. In the US alone that's almost 10 million employees. Imagine having 5, 6 or even 7 RTOs :-( Data bit.ly/3UT4DyA

This week for the Financial Times I wrote about Labour's dullness dividend. The hope is that stability => investment => growth. But what does the evidence suggest about how big that effect could be? 1st 300 clicks free to read: on.ft.com/3QKKo3O

Working from Home surged online shopping as a share of retail sales by about 2%, an extra $400bn a year. We all need breaks, and being able to use these to shop while WFH is valuable. Indeed, I've already made one on-line order today :-) WSJ story wsj.com/lifestyle/work…

Great to be joining the Roam panel. Also a good way to try out a new hybrid and remote technology - Roam is a coordination and communication device for firms with WFH employees.
