I booked a Premier Plus room for 2 nights as I have sleep apnoea & use a CPAP machine, so need a bedside table & power socket on the same side of the bed. When I arrived at your Old Street hotel on Thurs to check-in you gave me a key card for a standard room with no apology 2/4

When I queried this I was told that there were no Premier Plus rooms available due to 'maintenance issues'. I asked for a refund as I had paid for a room you could no longer provide and was told it was not 'within your power' to do that and I'd need to submit a form online 3/4

I was offered a standard room and as it was late at night, I'd explained that I was visiting my terminally ill father and was by then in tears in reception I accepted that, as I had no choice. The next morning I was again refused a refund. The online 'feedback' form said it 4/4

may take 20 days to respond. I rang your customer relations (40 min wait/call), explained this, was refused a full refund and offered a £20 'goodwill gesture'. I was pressurised to accept my complaint was resolved before you issued it (10-14 days). You then emailed an invoice 4/5

for £185 for a stay at your hotel tonight. I queried this and was told it was necessary to process my 'goodwill gesture' and to ignore it. I asked if you'd rather lose my custom than give me a refund for the room I paid for and you said yes. You may need to print more cards. 5/5
