Ian Skelly Alexandra Dariescu BBC Radio 3 BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus BBC Singers That was musical drama, piano style. Impressive!

Very glad you enjoyed it Aidan. It was a bold and ambitious programme by BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus and I thought it proved terrific on the night BBC Radio 3 and as you say, it’s still there on the Radio 3 in Concert page BBC Sounds

It’s been a shiny shoe week. Swapping BBC BH for BP to record a new series for BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sounds. Exclusive behind the scenes access and some fabulous discoveries behind ancient walls. Details to follow…

This was mesmerising Southbank Centre with Alina Ibragimova and friends. An electrifying performance of a war-time, haunting Piano Trio by Shostakovich and an intense rendition of Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time. Join me BBC Radio 3 BBC Sounds tonight at 7.30.

Ian Skelly Southbank Centre BBC Radio 3 BBC Sounds What a brilliant concert. (Must have been even more so in the hall). Powerful music so beautifully played and yes absolutely mesmerising !

Last night BBC Radio 3 she gave an absorbing chamber performance. Tonight Alina Ibragimova is virtuosic in Prokofiev’s 1st Violin Concerto with Philharmonia Orchestra who also give a top class rendition of Nielsen’s 5th Symph. Quality live music yet again this week. Join me at 7.30.

Well, I rather thought so. He is a genius . If you missed this deeply emotional concert BBC Radio 3 catch up on BBC Sounds. Well worth it as Jason attests.

It doesn’t have to be a French festival. We can go anywhere to build the playlist on Essential Classics BBC Radio 3 but we start in Paris - a childhood memory for Claude Debussy that gave rise to a riot of musical colour. Lots more besides to fill your morning from 9.30. Join me.

By the waterside this morning bringing Essential Classics BBC Radio 3 from the Gas Street Basin. As our man at the scene explains.

Now you see it, now you don’t. Tricks and mischief, Mephisto’s calling card, yet Liszt has us waltz with this sinister character. Where next to build a playlist? Dancing with someone you’d rather not? Join me on Essential Classics from Birmingham BBC Radio 3 from 9.30.

I listened to Thursday’s concert BBC Radio 3 on BBC Sounds as I headed back from Brum, partly to distract from sardine can conditions. BBC Singers on top form with stunning music by Tavener, Palestrina & the conductor’s own, Sir James MacMillan - and what an acoustic!
