This is heartbreaking, and you'd think that its sight alone would suffice as a shield against reckless demolitions... still hoping someone, somewhere in there will listen and save what can be saved.

The newly opened Aston University Archives holds student record books for 1893-94, 1894-95 and 1897-98. They detail students' occupations, employers, where they lived and courses. 56 railway workers attended the BMTS in this period, and I have plotted where they lived.

Call to all, esp. #Birmingham area: we have old SONY U-matic S SP video cassettes, which we believe may contain valuable material relating to the history of the university. Do you have, or do you know who might have, a machine that can play them?

Save Station Street, Birmingham (@oldstationst) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Birmingham. You deserve a Station Street at the heart of a world leading arts quarter. You deserve better than seeing The Old Rep alone alongside a closed down Electric Cinema & Crown Pub. It's OUR story of a street that defined 20th Century pop culture globally. Demand better.

Great congrats from me and from all of History at Aston to our splendid colleagues and partners in Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies. Loved our chats about historical aspects and relevance of what they do, to many more to come! youtube.com/watch?v=LPbnhG…

Hoping this call will be heard, and also strengthened by others to save landmarks such as the Crown and other key sites in music history. Time to give Birmingham some loving! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

1/3 Have you seen the Aston@130 exhibition outside the Library building to celebrate 130 years of education at Aston since our historical inception as a civic institution in Birmingham?

Indeed! Signed: Former international student and scholar in the US, outraged at how colleagues are being treated; and proud academic cheering for Harvard University to save the integrity and the dignity of the lot.

First was the fragment of a spine found somewhere... next thing you know, turns out we have the whole series of this journal in great condition!

And that is why people should be taught since nursery school to defend the integrity of the processes through which documents are preserved and accessed. May this alert all (everywhere!) about the importance of education in what archives/archivists/historians are and do.
