It’s been an absolutely fascinating conference RURALIMAGINATIONS, culminated by Michael Woods’s paper on the role of stories in unravelling rural assemblages, and Esther Peeren’s concluding remarks on a remarkable project that brought us all closer in our shared hinterland. 🙏🙏🙏

Monthly pick, Monday grind! Return to Dust (隐入尘烟), written and directed by Li Ruijun, follows the lives of farmers Ma Youtie and Cao Guiying in rural Gansu. The film proved popular with Chinese viewers, but was pulled from Chinese streaming services in September 2022.
