On this day in 1918, the Fortville Carnegie Public Library opened. After the community identified the need for a library, an application was made to Andrew Carnegie for building aid. This aid was granted, making it one of the last Carnegie libraries built in Indiana.

On this day in 1849, a post office called Taw Taw was established in Allen County, Indiana. In 1858, it was renamed Arcola, though the town wasn’t platted until 1864.
