I'm struck by the analyses of several intelligent commentators to the effect that a big reason for the election result was voters' rejection of a Dem woke agenda, eg rights for trans people and pronouns. That was basically 0% of the Harris-Walz campaign.

Soon to be Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth complained on Fox that veterans who use the benefits they've earned are dependent on the government and lack "personal integrity". This is what every Vet who wore their MAGA hats to the VA hospital voted for. x.com/politicalplaye…

Biden must urgently act with the Europeans to transfer frozen Russian assets to Kyiv—not just the interest but the capital. This money—more than $300 billion—can be used to purchase weapons, rebuild the country, and keep the economy going for many months. theatlantic.com/international/…

I just spoke to a Florida election lawyer: Matt Gaetz can’t resign his new term early, so his seat will be vacant from January 3 to February 28, 2025. That leaves Speaker Johnson short a crucial Republican vote for nearly 3.5 months.

Attention Senate Democrats: Practice these words, first at home, and then in front of a TV camera: “Release the Gaetz report. The American people have a right to know all about the underage desires of Trump’s attorney general nominee, our very own Pensacola Prince Andrew.”

Make no mistake: The information in the House Ethics Committee’s report into former Rep. Matt Gaetz could be relevant to his confirmation as the next Attorney General. It must be preserved and shared with the Committee.

Look, if Rep. Matt Gaetz wants to serve as the highest law enforcement officer in the land, we need to vet him — that’s my job as Senator. And that includes seeing this House Ethics report on him. That’s exactly what I called for last night.

I just went down to the Senate Floor to try and pass a bipartisan bill to reauthorize disaster assistance for small businesses. I’m deeply disappointed my colleagues blocked it, but I’m absolutely not stopping my fight for communities that were seriously hurt by Helene.

The Senate will continue confirming President Donald J. Trump's highly qualified nominees. Today: —We confirmed Cathy Fung as Judge of the US Tax Court —We confirmed David Huitema for Director of the Office for Government Ethics —We’ll advance Embry Kidd’s judicial nomination to the 11th circuit

My best guess: Matt Gaetz is simply the shiny object that Trump is dangling out there to distract from Tulsi Gabbard and to generate a sigh of relief when Matt Whitaker or some other relatively normal type is nominated to be AG after Gaetz goes down in flames.

Trump picking Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence is a danger to our national security. She has praised dictators, parroted Russian-backed disinformation campaigns, and touted working for an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group. This is bad for America, and good for Putin.

RFK Jr for HHS. Yet another singularly perverse pick. The health and welfare power of the US now in the hands of an anti-vaccine activist. Imagine if he had been in place during Covid. Worse than bleach...
