Excited to share our new preprint on how DNA supercoiling influences eukaryotic gene expression. Using live-cell transcription imaging, we show that DNA torsional stress generated during transcription can inhibit the expression of neighboring genes. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…

Excited to share our latest preprint! Using quantitative imaging of the yeast transcription factor Gal4 in its endogenous context, we find that transcription factor clustering acts as a double-edged sword (1/4) doi.org/10.1101/2022.1…

(2/4) Self-interactions help recruit transcription factors to target genes, but recruited Gal4 molecules that are not DNA-bound do not contribute to, and may even inhibit, transcription activation.

(3/4) We propose that cells need to balance these different effects of transcription factor clustering on target search and transcription activation to facilitate proper gene expression.
