Our Northern breeding partners have started lambing. Abertex ewe with an Abertex lamb, lambed overnight unassisted and 3 Primera ewes lambed overnight, unassisted, a 10-acre field to lamb in, and they lambed within 20m of each other with JRG Johnson in Northumberland.

Twins off crop, weighed and condition scored then split into pre-lamb rotation fields. Will graze exposed areas on rotation for 10 days and then set stocked on the more sheltered lambing fields. Although no shelter needed if this weather continues 🤞

Nucleus ewes transferred off pre-lambing rotation and set stocked across lambing fields at Southfield. Over 1,000 ewes expected to lamb in 20 days, just as the weather changes. The dry warm conditions have helped build covers on the lambing ground. Ewes looking well, 🤞

Wet start to our nucleus lambing at Southfield. Selection pressure over the years and good ewe condition already paying dividends.

More settled weather as we hit peak lambing at Southfield. Hamish busy colour marking lambs for week of birth, made easier with good maternal behaviour. Lambs will be tagged at 4 wks old and DNA taken to assign parentage. Over 400 yearlings lambing, great maternal traits 👍

Lots of lambs running around at our nucleus flock in the Scottish Borders, which is to be expected with 1,000 ewes lambing down over 20 days, scanned at 191%. Our nucleus ewes nailing it once again, having been wintered on a low input forage based system.

With the bulk of our nucleus lambing done at Southfield, ewes and lambs are now drifted from their set-stocked lambing fields onto rotational grazing. Grass growth has been good but regrowth slowing down due to the dry conditions. Lamb marking will start week after next.

Trying to keep optimal feed ahead of ewes as they hit peak lactation with 3 week old lambs at Southfield. Groups of 150-200 ewes with lambs on rotational across the platform but regrowth really slowed down with the dry weather. Lamb marking starts on Tuesday, busy week ahead!
