1. A thread. As a Professor of Cardiology and senior consultant i fully support resident doctors in their strike action. Newly qualified doctors of today: āž”ļø earn 40% less than their newly qualified assistants āž”ļø earn Ā£18/ hr āž”ļø financially they are worse off than when I was

The cognitive dissonance here is astounding Not asking the question WHY the wait has been 18 months in the first place 🤣 the British public make me laugh at times

Not everyone’s judgement is based on what they personally get out of it, John. This is about restoring the profession and the NHS having and keeping the doctors it needs. Good pay and conditions = more doctors able to make better decisions = better outcomes for patients.

Steve Thomas Dr John GalvĆ£o-Rogers Dr Done Wes Streeting ā€œMilitantā€? Great propaganda peddling. I’m proud of my residents on strike: these are the ones who are staying and fighting against a wave of staff attrition. And no, that’s not a lie - newly qualified Physician Assistants start on Ā£47-57k (higher in London).

I hope that every single student starting your Physican Associate course in September sues you for false advertising. You can’t deliver this . Ā£23k down the drain ARU Why don’t you do the decent thing and withdraw the course? The Office for Students (OfS) Wes Streeting

Why does a five day strike, spanning a weekend, get allegedly blamed for someone continuing to wait for surgery, having already waited three whole years? The public is influenced by biased reports, in my opinion, which is unfair to all. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Ahmad Barotchi Jen Johnston Ruth James Steen The RCN Very much this. RCN seems to only support nurses who are willing to pretend to be a wholly different professional discipline without the necessary qualifications. It is so invested in scope creep and the promises of role substitution that traditional nursing has been abandoned

Emma Runswick šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ Dr Matt Kneale (šŸ¦‹drmk.link) Dr Melissa Ryan šŸ¦€ This is beyond pathetic from the consultants in question. Resident Doctors have to learn to use a new EPR every time they rotate, multiple times a year. Consultants can’t be bothered to get to grips with…ONE? At a hospital they’ve worked at & will continue to do so for years?

If the Reg had called in sick on a normal day would the consultants refuse? The Trusts Senior Management Team have just admitted to endangering patients Nick Lyons and Jane McNicholas, as CMOs, why are you not ensuring Consultants are trained in IT to provide safe care?

As BMA chair Tom DolphinšŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ šŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø says, no doctor wants to strike. But we’ve been forced into this position by a Government that refuses to value or retain NHS staff. We’re asking to move from Ā£18.62/hr to Ā£22.67/hr, over time. For what doctors deliver daily, that’s a bargain.

Dr Haseena Wazir (@drhwazir) 's Twitter Profile Photo

David Rogers That’s for the negotiators to decide. What Wes Streeting has proposed will take 20 years to get to full pay restoration. Doctors were balloted and decided that was an unacceptable timeframe.

Dr Shivam Sharma (@docshivsharma) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Doctors' assistants are earning almost 47% more than a fully qualified doctor in London. Even with full pay restoration, doctors would still be earning less than their assistants. Paying doctors £22.67/hr would still be a bargain for this country.

Doctor strikes are the canary in the coal mine for an NHS on its knees Industrial action is the last resort - without this option, the doctors who are currently holding out hope for change will vote with their feet Silencing our legal rights should never be an option

Dr Huw (@drhuw) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The BMA has no influence on the numbers of doctors being trained The artificial & deliberate bottlenecks in training have all been manufactured by this govt & the last Shepherding in two-tier medicine

Dr Haseena Wazir (@drhwazir) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Kemi Badenoch Rather than addressing why doctors are striking; years of pay erosion, unsafe staffing, and being driven out of the NHS, you’ve chosen the Tory route: accelerate the mass exodus of doctors out of the NHS even more. Doctors train for years. We carry trauma, risk, and
