Grade 9 and 11 students participated in a two-hour writing workshop led by prominent Nova Scotia author Don Aker. They worked on developing characters and writing interesting story openers. Thanks to the Writers In The Schools Program and the Writer's Federation of Nova Scotia.

We’re excited to welcome ACAP (Atlantic Coastal Action Program) to IECA for the next two days! Students will be taking part in engaging presentations and hands-on activities all about our local environment, coastal ecosystems, and how we can make a difference.

Our students in Grade 4 were fully engaged today working on their dioramas! These hands-on activities are a wonderful way for them to apply their learning creatively, make connections, and build problem-solving skills.

Big shout-out to Mr. Fraser and Levi today as they worked on an electrical project! It’s always exciting to see hands-on learning in action, building skills, confidence, and problem-solving abilities. Great teamwork and dedication to learning!

Today in Ms. Jasmin’s Grade 2/3 class, students were fully engaged in a UFLI lesson! Using whiteboards and random groupings, they had the chance to show their learning in real time and practice their literacy skills in a hands-on, interactive way.

Students in Ms. Ashley’s Grade 6 class are fully focused and engaged today! Some readers are diving into a book club, getting the chance to challenge themselves and develop their reading and writing skills, while others are enjoying some independent reading time.

A shout-out to Ms. Angie & Ms. Kristen for their great work supporting small group instruction in reading & writing in Gr 7! Students are getting targeted support at their own level, building confidence, and developing important skills.

Exciting news at IECA - Our new indoor composters are officially up & running! A big thank you to our SAC for writing & securing the Innovative Schools Grant from the Province. Together, we’re growing green habits & fostering an environmentally conscious community!

Cove Ocean came in and presented on wind energy and careers in marine technology to Grade 7, 8 and 10. Students worked together to build and test wind turbines and then competed in a game of Sound Jeopardy, working together to identify underwater sounds!

Exciting news! Our new gym projector & screen are here! Huge thanks to the #SRCE maintenance & tech crew for installing it, and to Cabot & Erica & Brian Chisholm for their generous support. This upgrade will benefit students and our community in so many ways!

Today we launched our first student engagement sessions; an initiative students advocated for & a key part of our Student Success Plan focused on student voice. Over the next 8 months, students will build life skills like budgeting, cooking, house & car maintenance, and more!

Powerful Writing in Grade 3! Grade 3 students have been exploring what makes writing truly powerful. Through inquiry-based discussions, they examined exemplars and shared their ideas about what makes one piece of writing stand out more than another.

Grade 7 math was full of energy and great thinking today! Students were up and moving as they worked to create their own word problems using integers. A fantastic way to deepen understanding through problem design and discussion.

Loved seeing Mr. Ryan & Ms. Angie’s Grade 8 Learning Strategies class in action today! Mr. Ryan started the morning with a quick check-in, asking students where they were on a scale of 1–10. It was such a powerful way to build connection and awareness!

Our Gr 1 students had a wonderful time during Show & Tell this morning! It’s always so special to see them light up as they share something meaningful with their classmates. Activities like this help students build confidence, & practice speaking & listening skills.

Grade 2 worked on a Building Thinking Classrooms challenge to design a jack-o’-lantern with a total cost of $20! Each pumpkin, eye, nose, mouth, and accessory had a different price, so groups had to plan, problem-solve, & collaborate to create their perfect $20 jack-o’-lantern.

Last Thursday, our primary students taste-tested and voted on their favourite Nova Scotia apples! They also learned about the stages of apple tree growth and how apples make their way from the orchard to the grocery store.
