This is 50 years of Bioinformatics history, with 3 generations of scientists and associates who have collaborated with, and mentored by Janet Thornton. Thank you everyone who attended this celebration, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Cheers to all and happy holidays!

If you ever pondered why sharks and dolphins look alike while one is a fish 🎣 and the other isn't, then you'll be thrilled to know that our new preprint does not answer that. But it tells you why some unrelated enzymes do the same job. More here πŸ‘‡ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

But no one besides Novartis& Lilly etc. has access to the ligand structure prediction. All the data on ligand binding in the paper is irreproducible and should not have been published. As Reviewer #3 for @nature I recommended taking it out and saving it for promotional material.

Ever wondered how many amino acids you can mutate to alanine and AlphaFold2 still predicts same structure? πŸ€”For denovo design Top7 (1QYS), single-sequence mode, it's 60%. (1/2)

Why are porcupines and hedgehogs spiky while unrelated? πŸ¦”πŸ¦” Sorry, but we don't answer that. But in our new paper in the The FEBS Journal, we explore why some enzymes catalyse the same reaction without an evolutionary link. Check it out here! doi.org/10.1111/febs.1… EMBL-EBI
