The problem with people like Trump is that violence is inevitable, even if they don't incite it. They construct a reality so at odds with the world that their followers, when confronted by the contradiction, are driven to attack the world for not according with their worldview.

I agree with all the criticisms of Starmer. He's not slick. He can't do spin. He is a dork. He is bad at 'optics'. He can't shape a narrative. I just don't agree that those are criticisms. David Cameron was very smooth at all that stuff.

I get why people are cynical about social media and Elon Musk etc. I feel the same, deeply. But I also think the ugliness of social media right now will die out. People love beauty; and beauty is not anger, hatred, lies, or lust. Beauty is beauty. And that is mostly kittens.

When I was young, I jammed my head behind the bed to still my thoughts. My cat knew I wasn't OK, and came to me, and purred angrily next to my head so I could feel the vibrations. I don't care if people think they know better than my cat did. He was right. The world was wrong.
