Russia and Iran will not sign a mutual defense agreement, it doesn’t seem like the Russia-DPRK one is a mutual defense pact - it has a provision for “mutual assistance,” purposely vague it seems. As Julian Waller 📖 pointed out, there’s no Iran-RU-China-DPRK axis.

The Sino-Iran project is coming to an end. I'm pleased to say that the book stemming from the project will be published soon (Open Access). In May, we had a great conference here in Ravenna. As a Sinologist, I learnt a lot immersing myself in Iranology. sinoiran.it

It's a pity that I couldn’t be in Groningen, but I’m happy to share some thoughts from Shanghai on #Iran and #China: Common Heritage and Contemporary Relations. Thank you to Bill Figueroa and Peyman Eshaghi for their efforts in organizing such a timely and important event!

What the US and Israeli governments are doing in Iran is deplorable. We have been torturing the country for 70 years, since the 1953 coup, and it has mostly been civilians who pay the price. Iranian lives are not collateral damage.

My interview with DW on #iranisraelwar Unfortunately they did not include an important point: China cannot "influence Tehran" into ending the current conflict, because Iran is not the aggressor, it is under attack, and only the US can influence Israel. dw.com/en/iran-israel…

I spoke to TIME Magazine about the Israeli-led, US-backed war against Israel. Though a ceasefire has been declared, many of the points made in the article are still relevant. #China #Iran #IranChina #IsraelIranConflict time.com/7296139/china-…

Spoke with The Washington Post re: #China #Iran “China has little ability to affect the situation directly,” said William Figueroa, a China-Iran expert at the Univ. of Groningen. “China does not benefit from any wider conflict, but can't influence it directly." washingtonpost.com/world/2025/06/…
