Hard to fathom the mentality of people who shoot protected birds, like this female White-tailed Eagle, collected from a nest in Verdal, Norway, in 2022 as part of the reintroduction programme... Rare white-tailed eagle shot dead in Co Westmeath rte.ie/news/2025/0114… via RTÉ

In Glengarriff Woods: something sadly rare in my place: old holly trees. This species is super vulnerable to bark-stripping (causing death) by invasive sika deer + goats. And it's such a shame: despite the lack of epiphytic growths, holly becomes a very special tree as it ages.
