"The fact that government has set aside tens of billions of pounds for clinical negligence payments, its second most costly liability after some of the world’s most complex nuclear decommissioning projects, should give our entire society pause..." theguardian.com/society/2025/m…

I still think represents the most shocking void in the UK’s COVID response - when the largest biomedical facility offered to undertake testing (many universities did the same) the government didn’t even answer. The cost would have been minimal. Was it really that no-one would

#PelvicRadiationDisease is a reality for many people who've had pelvic radiotherapy. It's vital that healthcare professionals recognise and address these long-term effects to help improve quality of life. Support for people living with PRD is available: prda.org.uk/support/

IFS study shows Surestart saved UK taxpayers £2 for every £1 spent I read a similar study about Health Visiting not long ago. I read a lot of studies like this on #nursing too. As a taxpayer I want investment, not cost cutting. We need to pursue value theguardian.com/education/2025…

The lack of self awareness or contrition from Environment Agency is just gobsmacking. Formed in 1995 the EA has a primary legal duty to protect and safeguard this nation's salmon stocks. That's their job. A year after it was established 17,444 salmon were caught in England and Wales,

Stage 3 colon cancer patients who regularly exercised after treatment had a 37% lower risk of dying than those handed the healthy lifestyle booklet at 8yr FU (n=889). Exercise ‘better than drugs’ theguardian.com/society/2025/j…

Just because you delay cancer recurrence with a new drug does not mean either quality of life or overall survival will be improved . Both must be measured directly

A survey by Black Women Rising finds 74/100 women who use softies/ prostheses were not offered one to match their skin tone. Last night after the screening of ‘Unseen Unheard’, this powerful panel shared the inequities black women with cancer can face. Important we take action.

“QOL appears both underevaluated & underreported; furthermore, the majority of phase 3 QOL analyses are unadjusted for baseline scores, which lose efficiency & add bias...” 🧐 I mean… All that money, all that patient involvement… But who cares about quality of life hey 🤷

Lesley Smith 💙 (@lesleylesleys) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Richard Simcock Is it so hard to run trials that have parallel studies on ways to improve QoL alongside cancer treatment? Isn’t it a good idea to manage real-world QoL impacts better, which may mean increasing ability to tolerate/complete treatment & therefore (potentially) benefit survival?
