Reading for the weekend👓📖 Blog post by Zeynep Engin, PhD 🌍 on why & how it is important to discuss the increasing role of algorithms in critical decision-making processes

New Living With Data resources are here! All of them are now on our website bit.ly/3vBcbcn 🤩 Among other things, we produced accounts, animations, and visualisations of different data uses in welfare, media and health. Feel free to use and share them!

NHS ANTIBIOTIC 💊 PRESCRIBING RESEARCH PROJECT is our2️⃣example of HEALTH DATA USES! In this project, existing data about us is matched, linked and compared to help GPs use antibiotics better. We drew on Itzelle Medina’s research to produce this account.⬇️ 🧵

A brief recap about our Festival of the Mind panel 😃💫

So happy to watch the final cut of data/opium: a short film. - It all started in Dec 2021 & I enjoyed the whole journey. Thanks Festival of the Mind Collaborators: Patterns in Practice AI team + #OtisMensah + ENON films | Story first production company. 2012. festivalofthemind.sheffield.ac.uk/2022/event-cen…

This morning Monika Fratczak and I were having breakfast and getting ready for fieldwork when suddenly we saw a familiar face on TV…and we were like… is that Helen? Yeah it was Prof Helen Kennedy, @[email protected] on BBC News

Translating critical data & algorithm studies into impact The very wonderful Itzelle Medina & @LisaMReutter introducing their impressive programme sponsored by Carlsbergfondet & Datafied Living

It’s starting! These two met on Twitter back when that was still a thing and have organized an amazing 2-day event to talk about how to translate research into social impact ✨. Thanks @LisaMReutter & Itzelle Medina for putting this together
