📢 This week I joined ACT Office of Nature Conservation. 🥳 The night before my first day, I had a horrible food poisoning, but decide to go to office anyway. Within the first hour I felt dizzy, fainted, and collapsed. That's how I've met my new colleagues who helped me get up :]

The effect of inbreeding on animal cognition is unexplored outside human and rodent models. We showed that inbreeding impaired cognition in guppies, but only when fish developed at a higher, more stressful temperature.🪕🐟🧠

Delayed life update 🎓: As of August 2024, I’m convening the Research Presentation Course at ANU until the end of the year. Below is a photo of me and my peers attending this same class in 2018, taught by Dr. Rachael Remington. Thrilled to now teach a course I once loved!

During my first semester teaching Research Presentation Skills, a highlight was a workshop where students invented studies based on given AI illustrations and R plots, then presented their "findings." It developed scientific thinking and pitching skills, and was creative and fun!

Interesting meta-analysis on the role of ChatGPT in student learning. The accessibility of the Internet shifted education from memorization to problem-solving. Now, with AI solving complex tasks for students, I’m curious how educators will adapt. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

What does life after a #PhD look like? Here’s my own (n=1) experience with #academicjobs visualised after ~1.5 years and 60+ job applications. I’ve secured 4 short-term roles. All 4 were offered through my prof network and were not advertised. Make of that what you will.
