#OTD in 1961, Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr. squeezed into the "Freedom 7" capsule and launched into the sky. With this historic flight, Shepard became the first American to launch into space. Gazing at the earth for the first time, he remarked: “What a beautiful view!"

#OTD 75 years ago, the Allied Powers celebrated the defeat of Nazi Germany. The sacrifice of our brave warriors reminds us that no challenge is greater than the resolve of the American spirit. Their generation—the Greatest Generation—will never be forgotten. #VEDay75

Today we remember Constable Edward Holdsworth who paid the ultimate price on May 15, 1966. While responding to a motor vehicle collision, Cst. Holdsworth approached the vehicle and tripped over one of the electrified wires hidden in tall grass and died as a result #HeroesInLife

Today represents a truly important day in the history of humankind - we lifted off from Earth on #Apollo11 to a place of Magnificent Desolation - the Moon. It was the journey of a lifetime, a mission of eternal consequence for science, exploration, and human achievement.

Exactly 51 years ago, we were on our way to the Moon! There was a sense of excitement, focus, purpose and anticipation. America was on the verge of completing the “impossible.”

Through the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere grant, York Regional Police will receive $100,000 to carry out important road safety initiatives that will help combat impaired driving in our community.   It was a pleasure to team up with Chief Jim MacSween to deliver this news.

hi to all my new followers! By way of introduction, I tend to tweet about: • COVID vaccines, including the Phase 1 Moderna trial I am in • Other biotechnologies, especially from my workplace (Institute for Protein Design) • American news, politics & culture • Whatever else I want

"Schools are safe" is a political statement that ignores #COVID19 transmission in schools. "Schools are important for children's mental health & education, but must be made safer for students & staff" is more nuanced, but not said because of $$$. #OntEd cp24.com/news/totally-h…

In front of a station full of people, I try opening driver door of cruiser. Wont open. Unlock it from the fob. Still wont open...Realize it's not my car. Play it cool, saunter over to mine as if nothing happened. They know. I know they know. They know I know they know.
