🧵 On the day Parliament debates the Crime and Policing Bill, we see another service for victims of crime get its funding cut and possibly face closure: x.com/kevinhollinrak…

Shoplifting is at its highest level on record. Serial thieves are getting soft sentences only to reoffend again and again. Now Starmer is looking to scrap prison sentences for offences like theft and burglary. That would be a green light for even more criminality👇

They’ve backtracked now, but it’s very revealing that the instinct of Hertfordshire Lib Dems was to call a VE Day anniversary parade ‘elitist’. 80 years after the end of WW2 we must honour those who protected our freedoms.

I'm pleased to see this ruling from the Supreme Court - it's a victory for women across the United Kingdom and a victory for common sense.

Fantastic to be joined by Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Ash-Edwards on the doorsteps in Knebworth today. With Hertfordshire’s largest ever force, I’ll be working with HertsCommissioner to ensure we see action taken on the policing priorities of our community.

This would be very bad news for Hertfordshire’s thriving film-making sector and all the connected businesses and jobs locally bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Greggs will start locking up sandwiches, soft drinks and probably multi-buy sausage rolls behind the counter. Shoplifting is out of control. I want to see prolific shoplifters locked up and face a ban, a tag or a curfew. #StopStealingOurSausageRolls

Should someone go to jail for sexual assault? Head-butting their partner? Or breaking into someone's home with knife? Keir Starmer and Labour think not. They're about to scrap short prison sentences, putting more criminals on the streets. This is a dangerous mistake.

This monster sexually abused a vulnerable 15 year old girl at a party at which she and a friend were raped. The punishment? A SUSPENDED sentence. How have we ended up with people like this not seeing the inside of a prison cell? We have to get tough on child sexual abuse.

Wednesday's a big day for policing as the Chancellor confirms the spending review and it's not been looking good in the news this weekend. The Chief Constable and I have written to urge her to prioritise investment in policing in Hertfordshire. Any cuts to frontline policing

Early number crunching on the implications of the spending review for policing aren’t positive. The Government’s claimed increase in spending is measured against 2023 levels and just assumes council taxpayers will pay more locally.
