A-priori power analyses are used to justify sample sizes. However, resource restrictions (usually also) affect how many observations one can collect. That's ok but there are some things to consider. Read Daniël Lakens new pre-print: psyarxiv.com/9d3yf/n

Next week's session (1st Nov) will provide an introduction to UCL's electronic research notebook (ERN), a (probably) under-used resource. The ERN facilitates the documentation and standardisation of data collection and analysis procedures, and links with the UCL data repository.

In our next session (29th Nov) we will talk about applying open science principles to systematic reviews. This will cover several stages of the process, including registered protocols, documenting each stage of the process, and available open access software for screening.

The last JDI Open session of 2022: how to confront uncertainties that arise during data analysis. pnas.org/doi/full/10.10… shows that even given the same data and analysis instructions, different researchers will arrive at different results, and the variation is hard to explain.
