The British Thomson-Houston Company designed dog killing machine, using U.S. electrocution data (yes, human executions). Dogs were placed in metal cages. A button press sent 2,300 volts through their bodies. Between Nov 1925–Mar 1926, 978 dogs were electrocuted to death. 7🧵

An engineer called it “cheap and efficient.” Another praised it as "humane". Mass murder of dogs continued everyday till 1996. They succeeded in creating hate in Indians for Indian dogs by separating dogs and creating an official divide. 8🧵

Culling dogs became a colonial performance of power—a way to assert dominance over the animal and over the society that tolerated it. This wasn't just policy. It was ideology that went so deep that it is carried on till date in India. 9🧵

In 1996, when the Corporation of Madras finally stopped the electrocution, it was killing as many as 135 dogs per day or 50,000 per year. But the number of reported human deaths from rabies had steadily increased to 120 in same year 1996. 11🧵

In 1964, Blue Cross of India & Dr. Chinny Krishna understood that the experiment of killing dogs had not worked for 100 years So they experimented with Catch → Sterilize → Vaccinate → Release → This started showing results. bluecrossofindia.org 12🧵

It took 30 years from 1964 to 1996 to get Madras Corporation to approve the Animal Birth Control program to replace killing. By 1996, Chennai (Madras) adopted this model citywide. Rabies deaths fell from 120/year to ZERO. 13🧵

In 1990, WHO validated this: Mass culling doesn’t stop rabies or dog bites WHO today promotes ABC program, sterilization, vaccination of stray animals, as effective way to control dog populations, prevent rabies Only 70% vaccination 70% sterilization brings herd immunity 14🧵

If you still support hate-fueled mass killing and relocation of dogs You're repeating failed history. Today, when some RWAs, authorities, or residents call for mass killing of dogs—Remember: this isn’t modern or scientific. It’s colonial British cruelty reborn 16🧵

The Times Of India These days, there's a lot of nonsense being spread about dog attacks. But the truth is simple — in the case of pet dogs, it is the owner's responsibility. In the case of stray dogs, the responsibility lies with the entire society and the government to ensure proper vaccination

The Times Of India Human beings need to calm down and start solving problems instead of becoming hysterical about everything. And before any other issues, please save women and children from thousands of cases of sexual assault by men everyday. Only then cry foul about any animal.

To NDTV, the recent video you made viral of a supposed attack by a Husky dog - please go and speak to the victim lady. The husky was chasing something, the lady tripped, the husky got nervous and reacted. The lady is not angry. You are. You ARE running a campaign against dogs.

NDTV Indian media's style of reporting of man-animal conflict, including the way conflict between stray animals and humans is reported, is pre-historic, barbaric and also places them in the wrong side of history. These journos will not be remembered ONLY for their regressive attitude.
