If scholarly study of music is to continue, academics need to get out and make a strong case for why students should take it, rather than spending all their time fighting anti-classical culture wars, as many are doing.

If someone thinks the only reason Mozart or Beethoven, Shakespeare or Dante, Rembrandt or Vermeer,, The Mahabharata or The Romance of the three Kingdoms, are revered is because of the arbitrary exercise of power, then I really couldn't care less what they think of anything.
