I am extremely excited that this paper is out. We find further evidence of important avian anatomy in non-avian dinosaurs (the pisiform). And what's particularly fun is that was not why either Dr. James G. Napoli or I were originally looking at the relevant specimens!

My friends Dr. James G. Napoli and Alexander Ruebenstahl recently published on a cool new find that a tiny little bone in the wrists of birds tied to flight has its origins, not just in dinosaurs, but in non bird ancestors like oviraptorosaurs and troodontids. Anzu as an oviraptorosaur example

It’s unclear from the paper if the “scanning” was CT or surface scanning, too. CT would preserve most of the possible data so I do hope that was the modality used…
