Doctoral student, Cerebral Palsy and other stuff. I talk about education, but also MAiD. I’m not for everyone, and that’s ok.

“like the broad public support for the murderer of a disabled child named Tracy Latimer in 1993, the straw ban was an edifying and coalescing moment for disabled people. We have no political home. We are on our own.” ⁦Gabrielle Peters 👩🏻‍🦽⁩ mssinenomineblog.wordpress.com/2025/04/24/car…

FWIW this post is not a rehashing of reasons we oppose straw ban. It's a discussion of what it reveals about how support for that policy & others is manufactured & the serious consequences of that for disabled people & everyone else. mssinenomineblog.wordpress.com/2025/04/24/car…

17 years ago today I thought, hey I really like this Rocketbride Rules Master #SAVE DEAD BOY DETECTIVES person and I kissed her on Baldwin St in Kennington Market. Now whenever we walk past that spot we kiss.

Language and narrative are SO important to MAiD, not just to “sell” The regime, but also very specific ideas and stories of disability. They’ve really spent 30 years curating a vocabulary. h/t Gabrielle Peters 👩🏻‍🦽 Trudo Lemmens

School boards can’t dip into reserves to pay bills and are being threatened with take over. Agencies we partner with who are funded by other ministries and responsible for youth mental health are losing staff because they can’t afford competitive salaries.

Literally no one thinks teachers should replace clinicians in terms of practice for about a thousand reasons, but this logic suggests we should never use first aid with students because we aren’t doctors. Mental health first aid exists for a reason and it can save lives.

Sorry but the number of people on this app who boost those trashy principal accounts that berate kids and families. I can’t with us, sometimes.

So….I’m doing this today. I think it’s vital work, and it’s tough to describe how “at home” I feel in these spaces.

Every few months I’m in a space with Rod Michalko and Tanya Titchkosky and I need to figure out how to bottle the energy and feeling it gives me.

This kind of writing about MAiD (intimate vignettes of lives and pain, mixed with Drs telling stories, etc) is now its own literary genre that needs some analysis. Do Patients Without a Terminal Illness Have the Right to Die? - The New York Times nytimes.com/2025/06/01/mag…
