My letter in today's The Times and The Sunday Times following yesterday's brilliant article by Michael Berkeley:

A wonderful end to the week at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Birmingham City University as four of our student violinists got the chance to take part in a masterclass with the great James Ehnes. His insights and encouragement were typically generous and entertaining. Thanks James!

Can't wait for Leyton Orient FC's vital game v Jane on Tuesday evening. Apparently there's some trivial cup tie before then but I suppose one has to go...... Manchester City

What a great evening we had last night hosting the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Birmingham City University So many brilliant winners and nominees, and a great Birmingham showing all round. There’s a special programme tonight on BBC Radio 3 royalphilharmonicsociety.org.uk/rps_today/news…

Jiaxin plays a Bach encore after her Saint-Saens Concerto with Basingstoke Symphony Orchestra

A celebration to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the death of composer Sir Arthur Bliss, featuring discussion and performance by guest speakers and artists, and students from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Join us for all or part of the day's events, 27 March 10:15 - 16:00: bcu.ac.uk/conservatoire/…

Important letter to today’s The Times and The Sunday Times; happy to be one of the 700+ signatories. Open letter on the EBacc: Signatories - Independent Society of Musicians ism.org/car-letter-nam…

I find it hard to believe my mentor Sir Arthur Bliss died FIFTY years ago today. No one else helped me more and I will always be grateful for the immense kindness, generosity and encouragement he gave to a student just starting out on his career. Arthur Bliss Society @TheBlissTrust

What a joy to start the afternoon Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Birmingham City University with a recital by the great Roderick Williams (& Andrew West) who gave us a gorgeous tour of Victorian (et al) orientalism ending with songs by Harry T Burleigh, the composer who introduced Dvorak to African-American music.

❤️🎸🎤Fantastic afternoon launching the Buddy Holly book with Roger Daltrey, Bob Harris 💙, Mike *McGear McCartney Julian Lloyd Webber and Mike Reed at the Orangery in Holland Park. 📚The book is published by Genesis Publications and proceeds will benefit Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America 🙏
