One of the best ways to keep your smaller athletes sold out in the weight room. A 150 pound athlete may never bench 300, but they can train to bench 1.5X their bodyweight. Post your standards on the S&C record boards. Ours were: Squat 2X bodyweight, Bench 1.5X, and Dead 2.5X.

S&C Legend Josh Bryant recently started a BroScience segment discussing tips and tricks in the strength game from some of the most hardcore athletes to ever do it. These are hacks…you won’t find them in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning or in a nutritional science class.

If you want a big bench you must find a way to work these into your training. There is no help, no bounce, no stretch shortening cycle, nothing but the feeling of you pinned under a car and now you have to use that fight or flight to get it off you. Dead Bench = Big Bench.

I’m hard on this guy, but I hope he knows how blessed I am to coach him. This sophomore had a great start to his varsity career and is now working hard to make sure we take care of business next season. Grateful he is surrounded by these coaches and teammates. Proud of the Pack!
