Theatre Directors Emma Baggott and Derek Bond have been appointed and will co-chair the JMK Trust

Today, we're announcing that JMK founding trustee and Chair stephen fewell will be moving on in 2025.

He said 'After setting up the JMK Trust in 1997, I was lucky enough to become Chair when we first moved to the Young Vic in 2011 and to work with their team supporting directors like Roy Alexander Weisse, Kate Hewitt and Liz Stevenson'

'The JMK Trust has always been funded and run with the charitable support of donors and working members of the theatre industry, giving what they could afford to see the industry grow and change for the better, via the remarkable artists we’ve supported. '

As if a new season wasn't enough, we're also seeing The @JMKtrust1 Award return to the Young Vic, offering an early career director the opportunity to direct a full-scale professional play in the Young Vic’s Maria Studio. Applications will open in autumn 2025!

Incoming co-chairs Emma and Derek said “Stephen recently shepherded the Trust through COVID, since launching artists Diane Page, Indiana Lown-Collins, Kalungi Ssebandeke and most recent JMK Award winner Adam Karim with great leadership, commitment and care.”

They said' We cannot express how excited to announce that the #JMKAward is returning to its spiritual home Young Vic . In a time when theatres are becoming increasingly risk averse, collaborations like this allow theatres to take a chance on exciting emerging voices.”
