Yesterday, CDC announced an ⬆️ # of states w/ high rates of #obesity more than doubled. Today's #WHConfHungerHealth misses an opportunity to support a continuum of #obesitycare by hyper-focusing on prevention and counseling. We should be focusing on access to care & treatment

At the #WHConfHungerHealth President Donald J. Trump calls for Medicaid to cover counseling for #obesity and. Our research in 2016 showed that only 20 states covered counseling for Medicaid. We need to make access to #obesity counseling available and then encourage providers to offer it.

The #WHConfHungerHealth is pursuing fantastic goals, such as: ✅ Increasing the diversity of RDNs ✅ Expanding #Medicaid & #Medicare access to nutrition + obesity counseling ✅ Supporting equitable care But, we also need #TROA, comprehensive treatment & affordable #obesitycare

When talking about #obesity, the #WHConfHungerHealth missed a real opportunity to talk about comprehensive obesity care. Prevention and counseling are great but having access to the full continuum of #obesitycare is a barrier many of us face when trying to improve our health.
