Appreciation post for the beautiful italic script of the chancery of King Sigismund I ‘the Old’ of Poland. (Also: Sigismund says please come on crusade.)

Mary Queen of Scots was executed #onthisday in 1577. This work, published in France in 1588, details the legal justification for the execution. Translated into French from a 1557 English edition, it portrays the turbulent political climate of the time. Mitchell Library (EFP 1588)

A new Hospitaller manuscript acquired and digitised by the BL. The final leaves have a previously unknown French account of the loss of Rhodes in 1522, probably written by a scribe in the order's chancery or one of its French langues. #medievaltwitter #twitterstorians

Just our Keeper of Edged Weapons and Armour, Henry Yallop looking EPIC in the The Times and The Sunday Times today. Henry was inspecting a 14th-century sword from the arsenal of Alexandria which is being scanned as part of our collaboration with Windlass Steelcrafts.

Had such a good time at Traductio et Traditio Mediaevales: didacticism in literature and the transmission of knowledge in Peñiscola. The papers were fantastic, the weather amazing, and I got to present in a medieval castle :D

I'm thrilled to share that I successfully defended my PhD thesis yesterday. I'm profoundly grateful to Prof. Graeme Small and Dr Andrew Roach for their insightful examination. And, of course, a huge thanks to staff at the University of Glasgow for all their support.

Big announcement coming up: a book I co-edited with colleague Magnus Ressel on the Later Crusades has now entered the production phase and should be out by the end of the year. This is a result of our work within the IS-LE project. More info: degruyter.com/document/isbn/…
