If you are near Croagh Patrick this evening keep an eye out for this. Viewed from the Boheh Stone (a boulder covered in prehistoric rock art) it appears as if the sun rolls down the side of the mountain. It occurs twice a year on April 18 & today August 24 carrowkeel.com/sites/croaghpa…

#Stonehenge has “big skies” - something really brought home to me since doing archaeoastronomy. Some of the sightlines (particularly the lunar ones) run for many miles across the Salisbury Plain, as we explain in our book. historicengland.org.uk/images-books/p…

JSA is deeply saddened by the news of Tim Darvill’s passing. Tim supported skyscape archaeology, was a JSA founding editorial member and a prolific contributor. Our mission to bridge the gap between archaeology and archaeoastronomy would have been much more difficult without him.

A strange & remarkable night with the #Aurora over mid Wales. My son pulled me out of bed at 12.30 to go & see them again.. Visible with our own eyes & pulsating & changing every few minutes - just incredible. How were phenomena like this & rainbows viewed in past times?

An incredible night for the aurora borealis in Ireland, there was a really wonderful display visible here at Ballykeel Dolmen, County Armagh between 9.30-10.30pm. This portal tomb was likely built between 5,800-5,600 years ago. #Auroraborealis #megalithic #prehistoric

Ancient Light ✨ There she is. Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS in all her full-tailed glory, streaming though the sky above Eglwys St.Cwyfan ☄️ A visitor who last graced our skies 80,000 years ago, when Neanderthals still existed!

We know that Stonehenge was built to align with the movements of the sun but was it also built to align with the moon? Our Major Lunar Standstill Exhibition explores the connection between the stones and this once in a generation lunar event. Visit from 26th Oct. 📸: Nick Bull
