Had a great time in Boston at #fNIRS2022. Learned a lot and met some great people! Inspired to go do some brain stuff back in Glasgow.

Is there information in diffused light? Yes, even at lengths equivalent to >10cm of human tissue! In the future, we'll see cheaper and safer optical technologies replace the need for X-rays and MRI scans. Not sure what I'm more proud of, the publication or this GIF I made!

Diffusion as a confinement mechanism, can guide light around bends and with 10-100x higher transmission through completely opaque materials. Works also for heat and neutrons! Great work with Kevin Mitchell, Extreme Light, UofG PhysAstro nature.com/articles/s4156…

Researchers from UofG PhysAstro led by Daniele Faccio have discovered an entirely new way of controlling and guiding light, inspired by the way sunlight passes through clouds. Read more about their work, published in Nature Physics today, here: gla.ac/4hrKmJI
