Researching this loss as I wrote Before The Ever After was devastating. I learned that there is so much hope in Memory. They watched their husbands win the Heisman – then lost them to CTE wapo.st/3RdZU7C

We are getting reports of HUNDREDS of dogs being turned into shelters because of the fires. We never needed fosters & adopters more than now. If you can foster or adopt in the LA area, please DM me. If you don't live in LA, please share this post. You never know who will see it.

My great-grandfather migrated here from the midwest and owned Pasadena’s first Black Service Station. This isn’t publicly recognized anywhere to my knowledge & there aren’t any accessible photos of it either— as if it didn’t exist. I’ve only found its green book info

Black folk navigated the Altadena redlining/segregation: East and West of Lake Ave (East more affluent and white) North and South of Woodbury (line btwn Altadena n Pasadena & where you would need to be North by sundown). You can see these lines still in tact today

Anyhow, all of this (for now) to help you all witness the kinds of placemaking that Black migrants have made in Altadena. Generations of teachers, janitors, care takers, shop owners, etc. etc. just working class folk that deserve their homes.

I am just at a complete loss to navigate the enormity of the tragedy these fires are. My heart cries for everyone who has lost their homes, animals, anything they held precious. I mourn the growing number of people who have lost their lives or been injured. I pray for a swift end
