As of today - “COVID harassment” is a thing in Florida. New rule allows students to apply for a voucher and flee schools with mandatory masking, etc for private schools. State official said yesterday it would also work in reverse, although FL Board of Ed didn’t answer that.

today was my last day WUSF 🥲 in the last 3 months, I’ve produced 50+ stories ranging from the opioid crisis to contentious school board meetings to… dogs. Mark Schreiner thank you for trusting me to cover some really important news and, as always, thank you for the edits!

It's unanimous -- Florida's Board of Education will punish Alachua County for its mandatory student mask policy. How exactly? The BOE wants FLDOE to investigate the conduct of Alachua school leaders and more accountability from them. Funds could still be withheld.

NEW: In reversal, Palm Beach County School Board members voted late last night to mandate face masks; no parental opt-out unless students have a critical medical exemption. The new policy defies Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order that bans mask mandates. WLRN Public Media #Florida #Masks

My story on substitutes and teacher shortages made it to the front page of today’s New York Times! It’s been a pretty good Friday.

The EU-US Young Leaders Seminar has ended — with smiles & Belgian waffles! On their third day in Brussels, these young transatlanticists discussed diversity and democracy, and presented their ideas for a “Marshall Plan 2.0." We're eager to see what they achieve next! #EUUSNextGen

I'm very interested in how colleges will respond to these 'divisive concept' bills becoming law. If you are too, here's one example. The University of Florida just sent a presentation to faculty on the newly signed Stop Woke Act...
