We had a great #WBF2024session yesterday on #ConservationScience, #policy and #diplomacy co-organised by Clara Zemp Swiss Young Academy , Eva Spehn Forum Biodiversität Schweiz and Mollie Chapman D-USYS@ETH. World Biodiversity Forum at #Davos wbf2024.abstractserver.com/program/#/deta…

🦋🦊Introducing #trophiCH 🌿🐛, the Swiss 🇨🇭national #metaweb of >1 million empirically-based #trophic interactions between 23k #species. For a sneak peek at how Merin Reji Chacko @merinrejichacko.bsky.social and colleagues built this #foodweb, check out our 📄preprint here: ecoevorxiv.org/repository/vie…

Is fragmentation bad or good for biodiversity? Yes! We use a classical competition-colonization metacommunity model to show that fragmentation can increase or decrease diversity depending on the total amount of habitat in the landscape. iDiv Biodiversity Research Universität Halle (inaktiv) nature.com/articles/s4155…

Soil health as a driver of plant productivity. Our new paper in NatureEcoEvo using data from >500 sites and 27 European countries shows that soil health is associated with higher primary productivity. see: nature.com/articles/s4155… Variables of soil fertility including total N

How is biodiversity maintained in nature, where wild fluctuations can drive populations to extinction? In the early 90s, my Lab Complex Systems Lab and others showed that dispersal is the key to global stability out of local chaos bascompte.net/content/public…

This paper has been an immense journey in The Earth Commission, mirroring the task of delivering just that - a #just world on a safe #planet. There's so much in here, it sets the stage for real #tranformation linking local to global sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Diana Liverman Johan Rockström

🔥New paper out in Science!!🔥 Science Magazine We found that a third of the seed dispersers and interactions face potential extinction, in Europe 🌿🌳🐦⬛🦆🌍 This was an incredibly challenging (and rewarding!) chapter of my PhD thesis! #seeddispersal science.org/doi/abs/10.112…

We're looking forward to our next seminar! Jacqueline Oehri will present a multi-indicator, multispecies framework for rapid connectivity assessments at fine spatial resolutions across large ecoregions, and how it can be integrated with species distribution models. More info...⬇️
