At #ICLR2024 this Wednesday, Marlene Careil from FAIR will present "Towards image compression with perfect realism at ultra-low bitrates" in Poster session 3 at 10:45 a.m. We developed a new perceptual image compression method with a near-constant FID across bitrates.

To do this, we leveraged a pretrained latent diffusion model, training a hyper encoder on the latent representation and augmenting it with text conditioning.

The result is sharp, realistic images at bitrates as low as 0.0032 bits per pixel!
