I submitted an FOI request to the GMC asking them about the tax they pay. Turns out, the GMC do not pay tax. They class doctors' fees as charity. They take £500/yr from doctors, pay zero tax on it, and use it to give their staff £250k salaries and private healthcare.

With yet another failing from our racial segregator (?regulator), GMC, I was genuinely stunned to learn the atrocities they have committed according to the Horsfall Review: GMC responsible for “more than 10% of the country’s death rate at work”.

Let’s be clear. This from GMC endorses the continued dangerous and unchecked expansion of the scope of MAPs, whilst simultaneously enabling the misrepresentation of MAPs to the public. At best, this is a negligent dereliction of duty. At worst, it is wilful complicity.

An emergency motion passed by BMA General Practice GPC England calls for “a pause on all recruitment of PAs across PCNs and General Practice until appropriately safe regulatory processes and structures are in place”.

It has become clear that employing PAs is fraught with challenge to define scope, prevent scope creep, and protect trainees. I and colleagues locally, as well as other colleagues elsewhere in the country have decided not to recruit PAs to our teams for the foreseeable future.
