Eldorado running out of outs and hope here. Sandia is up 13-4 -- the Matadors have had three separate innings with four runs tonight -- as we head to the seventh, the last act of the 2024-25 school year. A long drought for Sandia is about to end.

Visited with Sandia senior Damon McRee, who tossed a complete game and also drove in a pair of runs for the Matadors in their 13-4 win over Eldorado in the Class 5A final on Saturday night.

Talked with Adriel Figueroa-Brito of Sandia. He was a freshman on the 2022 team that lost in the 5A state final.

Sunday AJ will be jampacked with preps. The man with the La Bamba obsession, Geoff Grammer, has state softball coverage. Sean Reider has the 4A and 3A baseball finals. And me on big school state track and 5A baseball. I’ll be columnizing on the spring sports for Monday.
