Several Labour MPs disappointed not to be in first group, emails to table office this morning asking to be added. All not including the dozen ministers considering their position. The 170 number I wrote about 5 weeks ago still stands - but now it's almost all public.

This bill will push disabled people into poverty. And have catastrophic consequences for years to come. Read and share the Joseph Rowntree Foundation NEF Trussell Scope CitizensAdvice Mind & others briefing on the scale of issues this bill will create. ucpipbill.co.uk

Some facts about #PIP 1. It is NOT an out-of-work benefit 2. The assessment & application process is hard. It is not "easy to claim" 3. Only 40-45% of claims are successful 4. Getting the correct reward is difficult. Challenging it can take months.

The literal assessment published by *the* government says 250,000 people will move into poverty as a result of these changes…?!?!

Personal Independence Payment #PIP addresses the extra costs of striving to lead a 'gloriously ordinary life'. Proposed cuts will cause deep harm to many people, with the costs also felt by local councils, the NHS, and other public services. The government should think again 👇

Worth saying that there’s only one 3 point score in the PIP assessment (for people who need assistance to get in or out of a bath or shower). Almost all of the criteria are scored in multiples of two …

Welfare rebellion latest 👇🏼 Three more Labour MPs have signed rebel amendment, taking total to 126, but none have withdrawn their names, despite government efforts. Also, I’m told the Greens, Plaid and SNP have joined signatories, which already include DUP, making it more

EXC - No10 is set to offer concessions to Labour rebels on welfare. Talks are ongoing but changes could be made to the Pip reforms. A number of cabinet ministers are now said to believe the bill has no chance of passing in its current form. Story with Kiran Stacey Pippa Crerar

Because not all disabled people claim benefits. An increase in claims likely reflects an increase in take-up given the increase in financial hardship

The compromise solution would mean: - cuts to PIP disability payments only apply to new claimants, while those already receiving them continue to do so. - package of employment support measures expanded and brought forward so that up to £1bn available this year, and several

Concessions for those already on disability & health benefits are welcome, and a testament to all the work that has gone into campaigning against these cuts But people who need support in future will face a much harsher and meaner system if the amended proposals are implemented

Now that the focus is on future PIP claims rather than those currently on the benefit, it's worth highlighting that the proposed assessment change is due to have a much greater impact on the proportion of people from this group who will miss out on support by 2029-30 as a result

Proposed changes to the disability benefit cuts are a substantial improvement for people already claiming disability benefits. But we remain very concerned about what the system looks like for people who get sick or become disabled when the system changes next year.

A reminder: 1. This is only meaningful for the review if DWP is clear on what co-production means (given prior govts' over-promising) 2. This is largely meaningless for the Bill if it has no bearing on PIP cuts (as it stands) We need both for this to be a real step forward
