An Australian Laureate Fellowship is a big deal. Our warmest congratulations go to all 17 recipients announced today, including Academy Fellows Professors Geordie Williamson, Catherine Stampfl and Gary Froyland.

I’m over on threads with username jan.david.zika. The app isn’t any good yet though. You can’t get it to just show you just what follow. Instead, you get an endless stream of crap. I won’t be using it much and I wouldn’t rush over until they sort that out.

Interesting micefearboggis and Ed Doddridge. It calls to mind Nassim Taleb pointing out that observing a 6-sigma event, is evidence that a process isn’t normal. What is more likely: a 1/500,000,000 event happening or the statistical model needing fatter tails?

First (shareable) iteration of our group’s new website. Much to be added in terms of projects and highlights but it’s a start. Thanks to Josef Bisits for leading this and to Greene Laboratory for the template! climate-data-dynamics.github.io/climate-data-d…

I’m in principle in favour of this. Many have commented that the EOI’s should be assessed by domain experts - but in my experience even full proposals don’t get too much input from domain experts - so if the panel are going to have a lot of sway, they may as well have it early…

New paper out! We demonstrate the application of a new inverse method to the task of diagnosing the ocean carbon sink from observations by validating the method with synthetic data from a numerical ocean biogeochemical model. gmd.copernicus.org/articles/17/59…
