I was not surprised that SALT and Medicaid were major bargaining chips during this House fight. I remain shocked that the IRA held any political juice among Republicans. What other climate policy has managed to gain that kind of cross-party appeal?

Tax credits for renewables are expiring in the coming years. Less widely known is that construction costs for gas-fired power plants are soaring at unprecedented rates. This will be reflected in electric bills for years to come.

Great point from Jane Flegal on the necessity of the EV tax credit for a robust critical minerals supply chain. “You need signals across the supply chain… chopping off the demand is going to have a negative impact upstream.”

A few of Jane’s critical points: ➡️ The ITC/PTC needed to lower the risk of double digit rate increases. ➡️ The ITC/PTC needed to maintain demand for supply created by new manufacturing. ➡️ The House proposal is most harmful to technologies Republicans like (advanced nuclear).
