So many concerning points covered here... The government has a crucial opportunity to support speech and language development in #EarlyYears by funding early language interventions. Jane Harris talks about how this policy can be delivered effectively⤵

Some very welcome recommendations!🙌 We're so glad to see a call for investment in early language. Where have we heard that before?😉 (Hint: speechandlanguage.org.uk/the-issue/our-…) Jane Harris also shares her thoughts in a new blog post. Read the full thing here! 👇 speechandlanguage.org.uk/about-us/news-…

Join our movement and Speak Up for #DLD! Despite 2 in 30 children having Developmental Language Disorder, many people have never heard of it. Read our new blog post and learn how you can help us spread the word! 💜 >> speechandlanguage.org.uk/about-us/news-… #DevLangDis #DLDAwarenessDay

You can’t solve the problems in the SEND system without increasing support for children struggling with talking and understanding words. A choice of early language interventions that close the gap for half of children and identify those who need extra support is crucial!

The SEND system is broken – its reform has been a long time coming! Harnessing the potential of the 1 in 5 children with speech and language challenges will be key🔑 to the UK's economic growth. Read our full comment👇 speechandlanguage.org.uk/about-us/news-…

Great to see Jane Harris's comment featured in this article! Whole-system reform is a must💥 The report from National Audit Office shows why the government needs to put the 1.9 million children with speech and language challenges first!

Increasing nursery places is desperately needed. But for these nursery places to help children’s development, we need enough skilled staff. Government must extend the Early Years Professional Development programme which otherwise will end in 6 months. 🧵 gov.uk/government/new…

57% of traffic along Old Bethnal Green Road was just cutting through local roads. Liveable Streets cut traffic while building stronger communities where children play out more. Why spend £2.5m to bring back traffic that doesn't even stop here? #SaveOurSaferStreets

So great that over 3000 schools are going pen-free today and focusing on children's speech and language development. #NoPensDay

The 1 million children with Developmental Language Disorder in the UK deserve an awful lot better from Department for Education. I genuinely don't understand how the Department is looking after their futures after not including them in this group.

The 1 million neurodivergent children with speech and language challenges should be represented on the neurodiversity taskforce! But they’re not. Why are their voices missing, Department for Education?

The government has set the target for 75% of 5-year-olds to reach a 'good level of development' in the #EarlyYears. It’s great they’re focusing on workforce development, but why aren't they continuing to fund the EYPDP when it’s been so successful❓ questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statem…

If the neurodivergence taskforce wants to make schools better for neurodivergent children, why aren’t the 1 million children with Developmental Language Disorder part of the conversation?😣 This is totally unacceptable! Department for Education, don't you agree? #TheForgottenMillion

Speech, language and communication skills are missing from the interim curriculum review... we're not sure what's going on but Department for Education we're here to help fix this!

Today is a terrible and confusing day. A Government that supposedly prioritises early years has let the Early Years Professional Development Programme close - without any explanation to children, families or early years staff. 🤞🤞🤞 @dfe can reverse this at the #SpendingReview.

It is horrendous that Govt. has allowed EYDPD to close without an alternative, especially when they claim #EarlyYears are a priority. Children need early years staff who know how to support their speech, language, personal, emotional and social development. We can't fail them!

At our Health and Social Care Committee, during our #First1000Days enquiry, I asked @speechandlanguk’s Jane Harris about the failure to provide adequate speech and language support early on, and how it impacts children for later life. The stats are shocking. Hear her explain 👇🏿
