🔥 "How far back do I have to go to undo the wound in this family?" In tonight’s #FaneOnline event, @janikaoza & geeta pendse discussed the themes of Gujarati culture, language & family in her debut novel: #AHistoryOfBurning. 💻 Available now on demand: fane.co.uk/janika-oza

I just finished reading Janika Oza's A History of Burning (2023) and I am blown away. Her ability to write with depth in the space between the unsaid and understood is masterful. The novel sings in a song that's mournful and hopeful all at once. Never dog-earred so furiously!

From The New Yorker's latest 'Briefly Noted' section: The "epic début novel" A HISTORY OF BURNING by Janika Oza And THE LOST SONS OF OMAHA by Joe Sexton, who "marshals a remarkable volume of investigative material to disentangle fact from fiction." Congratulations, authors!

I’ve done a lot of reading this summer (and not much else). Just finished this masterpiece and did not want to part from the Indo-Ugandan family at the center of the novel. #AHistoryOfBurning Janika Oza Grand Central Pub

A sweeping saga of displacement and disruption — but never dissolution — for 4 generations of an Indo-Ugandan family that spans almost 100 years. It sounds like an unwieldy read; it’s not. The writing invites and envelops. A remarkable debut from Janika Oza . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
