3/ Did you know that #COVID19 vaccine wastage has been reported as high as 30%? Many high-income countries have been wasting #vaccines due to expiration & decreased demand, while in low-income countries only 15% of people have been vaccinated. BMJ Global Health The Independent Panel

4/ We suggest practical actions to reduce open- and closed-vial #vaccine wastage eg overbooking appointments & appointment-free vaccination increases #vaccination rates, and paired with the right technologies aids to maximise the number of doses being extracted from the vial.

"Wastage" is a term that is used by vaccine experts to explain doses that are discarded. There are two types: open vial and closed vial. While both are "normal" in vaccine programs, a recent paper by Jeffrey V. Lazarus explains ways to reduce wastage and save money and vaccines.
