HB 1145, Workforce Education, passed its first committee stop at the Careers & Workforce Subcommittee this morning. I’m proud to have filed this legislation, and grateful to the committee for their support.

What an honor to recognize Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Dalton on the House floor last week. Deputy Dalton was shot in the line of duty in February. A deadly criminal went on a rampage, killing several innocent bystanders before Deputy Dalton intervened. Thank you for your service.

After we lost a student in Port St. Joe to an undiagnosed heart condition, Corey Simon and I filed legislation requiring a simple medical evaluation for student athletes in high school. Through early prevention, we can save lives. We will always remember you, Chance.

What a treat to have middle schoolers from Faith Christian School in Port St. Joe visit the Capitol today. The students got to visit at the Old Historic Capitol and House Chamber, and finish off their visit with lunch on the 22nd floor.

Filing and passing The Second Chance Act is one of my greatest honors during my time in the legislature. HB 1135 will require an EKG screening for school athletics, helping us detect undiagnosed heart conditions that have claimed the lives of students like Chance. #ChanceStrong

Earlier this month, the Taylor County Sheriff's office deputized D.J. Daniels, a 13 year old cancer-fighter with a passion for law enforcement. D.J. stole hearts across the nation during President Trump's joint session. HD 7 was proud to rally behind him at the ceremony.

The incredible legacy of John Thrasher trails through the streets of commerce, the halls of the state Capitol and the paths of Florida State’s campus. He will be remembered for generations. God bless him and his wonderful family.
