Today I attend the Dutch Demography Day. I learned that there are even more ways to look at human populations and their networks as I thought. But I keep thinking: would all this work in other animal populations as well, or are all these patterns human specific?

My abstract for 8th EvoDemoSoc Annual Meeting in Paris has been accepted. I will talk about the effects of poaching on the family structure of elephant herds. I am looking forward to the conference!

The second paper of my thesis is published! In this paper I explore how a stochatic version of the von Bertalanffy growth equation can be used to estimate variation in individual growth and bodysize without repeated individual observations. dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3.9…

Just before the weekend the third paper of my PhD thesis was published. Herein we explore how optimal harvesting intensity changes with density dependence in growth. With @tobiasvankooten @andrederoos61. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/fa…

Straight into elephant demography at 8th EvoDemoSoc Annual Meeting. Jasper Croll presenting data on how poaching disrupts family groups, with implications for mortality and fecundity (fertility for those of us who spend too much time thinking about humans)

Plasticity in growth is closely links to the energy availability of individuals. In the new article from my PhD, we show that energy allocation schemes of individuals could play a major role in the evolution of plasticity in individual growth curves. doi.org/10.1007/s12080…

Growth is more similar beteen ecological related species and adjesent locations. In the last publication of my phd we therefore argue that growth is a usefull indicator for enviromental conditions and ecological relatedness. int-res.com/abstracts/meps…
