I’m relieved to hear the Monroe PD officer injured in last night’s shooting is expected to recover. Our officers put their lives on the line every day to protect us. Grateful to Monroe PD, CMPD, and the Union Co. Sheriff’s Office for their swift response and dedication.

My thoughts are with the loved ones and colleagues of Cherokee County Deputy Francisco Paul Flattes, who was killed in the line of duty earlier today. I’m grateful to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the SBI, and western NC law enforcement for acting quickly to get the

The AI moratorium would have locked states into 10 years of doing nothing to protect people from the harmful uses of AI. I'm grateful that 99 senators voted to remove the AI ban from the bill so we can still build safeguards to protect kids and consumers. cnn.com/2025/07/01/tec…

Update: The CMPD officer who was shot on duty this morning is in stable condition and the suspect is in custody. I’ve been in touch with Chief Jennings to offer our office’s support and gratitude for the officers who put themselves in danger to keep us safe.
