My university has a "Seniors of Significance" award to seniors who excel academically and in engagement with the university community. One of my honors students just got this award and notified me with the email title "I'm p < .05.” I am here for this statsy celebration!

I know many faculty who don't even look at their course evaluations, and I get why. But, I love looking at them, even the disgruntled ones. I'm the nerd that sets an alarm the morning they are available, so I can read them first thing.

My favorite thing about saying "If 85% or more of the class completes the course eval, I'll give you an extra credit point on the final" is that they push EACH OTHER to do it. Today I heard several variants of, "Fess up, who hasn't done it? Go do it now!"

I used to be jealous of faculty members who could remember names and focus areas. They'd say, "Go read ___'s paper on ____." I could never do that without looking up names and paper titles. As of maybe 3 years ago, I can do it too. I'm unsure how this skill generated.

What are some examples of papers with full supplemental *studies*? Like there were extra studies that were conducted but less interesting than the main ones but the authors wanted to make sure they were part of the package anyway?

In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 wks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. forbes.com/sites/kimelses…

My friend and I once made it to every single stop on every single line of the Chicago "El" train in a single day. It took a little over 12 hours. And yes, that includes the Yellow line.

We overestimate willpower. We underestimate context. Situation modification is the simple, science-backed idea that you can change your behavior by changing your surroundings. Put your phone in another room. Sit next to what you want to focus on. Create friction for
